Applicants can now sign up for a 45 minute session with one of The Writing Web’s experienced writing professionals for assistance with brainstorming ideas, selecting essay topics, organizing thoughts, revising an essay, or to address individual concerns. The Writing Web, at www.writingweb.com, is unique in making use of online chat software to provide one-to-one admissions essay counseling. “We were looking for a way to make our application consulting process more interactive. Real-time online discussions allow us to provide highly personalized and timely help for our customers,” said Sharon Perlman, President.

The online consultations will also be a very cost-effective way to help The Writing Web’s international customers. Currently about half of the company’s clients come from foreign countries, including China, India, Japan and Brazil. Ms. Perlman commented, “We’ve had customers who have participated in pro-democracy marches in China, organized banana growers in Costa Rica, and escaped kidnappers in Mexico. We really enjoy working with such a diverse and interesting group, and we’re excited about using this technology to better serve our international customers.”

The technology itself is very easy to access and use. The graphical interface of the company’s discussion room is similar to a chat room, which most users are familiar with. After a message is typed and the enter button is pressed, the message immediately appears on both the customer’s and the consultant’s screens. The customer only needs to have an internet browser; no software download is required.

The Writing Web also provides written essay evaluations using email to correspond with customers. Their web site offers essay writing tips, an online self-help guide called “How to Write Great Application Essays”, application advice and links to admissions resources.

The Writing Web is located in New York City. The company was founded in 1997 by Sharon Perlman. Ms. Perlman graduated cum laude from Cornell University as an English major.
